Bible Verses: 1st John

This week we return to 1st John. I am looking forward to all God has in store for us during this study. May the Holy Spirit move and change each of us.

*Bible Verses is not a comprehensive study and each reader should seek the Lord alone for revelation and translation.

1st John 2: 15-17

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world- the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions-is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."

These verses are also very convicting. Before knowing Christ, the world offers us pride and tells us that our significance and self worth comes from what we do and what we have. I know from personal experience that relying on yourself to provide purpose and meaning in life is futile and empty. For the love and grace of Christ fills in the emptiness and replaces it with love. A powerful working of the Holy Spirit to tear apart every notion of self and replace it with the image of Christ. This working of transformation is still taking place and yet somehow in loosing myself, I find meaning and purpose because He found me.
