We are back in action here at Bible Verses hopefully actively seeking to find ourselves or perhaps rescue ourselves from the world. It is and will be a battlefield. Think not that we will be able to easily reclaim what has been compromised, lost, or clouded but instead we must pick up some armor, we must pick up some weapons, and we must fight back. We fight the world with the Holy Spirit, we fight it with conviction, truth, and the armor of the Almighty God.
Who are we? What is our purpose? That is what we will focus on this week and next. This will not be a comprehensive study on the variety of purposes under which Christ can work, suffice to say that area is rather broad as God can work anywhere. The overall goal of the next two weeks is for us to ground ourselves in truth and discover that God's purpose far outweighs our own if we would only quit buying into a culture of deceit and sell out to Him.
This week and next we will focus on Romans 12:2
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Conformation not to be confused with confirmation. . . Why does this writer of Romans immediately address conformity? Perhaps he could see inside a little too deep. We are all born with a sense of desiring to belong to something, God put that there to someday lead us to him. If we miss that, we end up strung along in a variety of worldly falsities that promise purpose. If you are there today just ask yourself this question, "Do you feel whole? Do you feel complete?" That will never happen outside of the redemptive work of Christ no matter how you might tell yourself otherwise. Perhaps we are believers we still need to ask these questions because like a compass it will tell us where we are with Him. . . So let us all start there. We may need to stay there until the work of the Holy Spirit moves us forward out of this faze. I cannot answer when you should move on past these questions until you can rectify exactly what satisfies.
Transformation: This is what Christ calls us to and yet it cannot occur by our own will. You cannot transform your own heart because your heart controls your mind. Yes I just said that your heart is more powerful than you in a sense. Transformation of that heart must occur by someone greater than yourself, someone who knows you more than you know yourself, someone who knit you together in your mother's womb, someone who bled out their life for you on a cross. Do you want to feel like you have a purpose in life? Run to the cross. . . Do you want to feel whole?? Run to the cross Do you need restoration?? Run to the cross and in so doing Christ meets you and transforms. I pray this for each of us.
